Alaska Emperors

#CoolEdge

The Alaska Emperors (EST. 2021) are a franchise based in Alaska, USA. The Emperors compete in the Alliance of Fantasy Football Champions League.

Ludiyolo252, the owner of the Emperors, started the franchise in Denver during the inaugural AFF season as the Denver Bighorns. The team would remain in Denver until the 2024 season when a move to Alaska was made permanent.

The Emperors are a franchise that has experienced a very odd fate as far as luck goes for any sort of league, boasting some of the luckiest and unluckiest decisions ever made in the Alliance.

About the Owner

Ludiyolo is the premiere analyst for AFF. While he usually rates his own teams far too high in the preseason, he always comes into every year with some new strategy to try and get ahead of the curve. Ludiyolo does the preseason power ranking write ups, using in depth analysis to determine what players are ones to watch for, and predicting draft busts in real time. Because of this, he is frequently cited to have a crystal ball on his desk, because sometimes he just knows things no other person could possibly know unless they could literally see the future.

Ludiyolo is also involved with the rules and trade committees, combing through all the details with extreme precision. He also assists Furina with managing the weekly updates for all 3 leagues, alongside being one of the few MVFP voters in the AFF. He was one of the starting 10 teams of the AFF, and while there have been plenty of low points, the Bighorns (Emperors) 2021 season shines as a bright point no team will ever reach with 3 players in the top 5 of their position all on a roster at the exact same time.

History

2021
In the first season of the AFF, Ludiyolo assembled an absolute juggernaut, with three of the top five running backs that year, Justin Jefferson, Mike Williams, George Kittle, and Justin Herbert’s 5,000 yard season all on the same roster. This year reignited Ludiyolo’s love of football, alongside giving him his new favorite player, Justin Herbert. In this season, Ludiyolo scored the most points compared to the rest of the league, but he also had the most points scored against him all year long, giving him the same kind of luck his favorite team seems to get year in and year out, as the Bighorns (Emperors) took a first round exit.

2022

In the first year of the 16 team league featuring draft pick trades and a tight end premium, Ludiyolo took a risk by selecting Justin Herbert, his favorite player, in the first round. The reasoning was simple, he would be able to acquire him in the year after in a dynasty-esque style. Unfortunately, Herbert injured his ribs that year and midway through the year it was decided that he would not be able to keep Justin Herbert for 2023. As with every year after the first, the Bighorns (Emperors) missed the playoffs by a narrow margin.

2023
In the next year, Ludiyolo stumbled on a divine sense of luck, trading down from picking 3rd overall to 10th overall, and in return being able to acquire an additional second round pick. With Ludiyolo’s three picks, he selected Austin Ekeler, Nick Chubb, and Bijan Robinson. The Bighorns (Emperors) then proceeded to experience the single most unlucky fantasy football season many people in AFF have ever witnessed. Injuries, the flu, only 1 pick in the top 6 rounds performing at an expected level, and one of the greatest sports gambling heartbreaks you will ever witness happened this year. (The Bighorns lost a game by 1.6 points and the running back was a couple of yards short on the over that was bet!!!)

This is before mentioning free agency and trade luck too, where the Bighorns quite famously traded away Trey McBride for a measly 21 Free Agency Auction Bucks. If something could have gone wrong that year, it did go wrong. The Bighorns, again, missed out on a playoffs spot in 2023.

2024
With a fresh coat of paint, the Alaska Emperors went all in on the best possible line, taking two tight ends in the back half of the first round of the AFF draft, a never before seen draft game plan that was only followed by the Carolina Aviators that year when they selected two tight ends by their 2nd round pick, showing once again how the Emperors unconventional yet powerful strategies. In 2022 they were a top 3 team that fell apart, in 2023 they started the year off as a clear #1 team in the league before that year turned in to a never-ending bus crash. And in 2024, they once again entered the league as an easy top 3 contender alongside the Yokai and Aviators. Just like his real life Chargers, the Emperors remain the off season champions. This year was probably the most stable year for the Emperors, with every drafted player performing at or above expectations, especially late 3rd round pick Nico Collins and late 5th round pick David Montgomery. The issue with the 2024 team was the fact that the quarterback rarely scored above 15 points in a game. This issue is the primary cause of the famous tie between the Emperors and Yokai, due to quarterback Andy Dalton scoring -1.05 points. If the Emperors had a below league average 15 points per game out of their quarterback, they make it to the playoffs with a real chance at winning them, instead however, they barely escape getting put into the relegation games.

This year the Emperors also tried their hand at the APL and the ABA, where they didn’t try too hard in the ABA but in the APL they managed to finish third despite never having watched a premiere league game, nor knowing a single premier league player, until about an hour before the draft for the APL started. An absolute free agency masterclass was on display for the Emperors, but due to flaming out late, they missed the championship game.

Rivalries

Tokyo Yokai
The Emperors and the Yokai played a role in easily the weirdest games of the year for the entire league. In 2021 they played a game where having the most points scored and most points scored against was on the line in the final week of the year. In 2022 they played a game where 5 of their players were playing together in a single in real life game. In 2023 Kyren Williams annihilated the Yokai in a revenge game, and in 2024 they combined for less than 160 total points en-route to a tie, where somehow the Emperors benefitted benching their premium tight end Trey McBride instead of starting him against the former Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker. They are also one of the Emperor’s most frequent trading partner throughout the years, with the Emperors constantly getting wrapped up into three team trades started by the Yokai. Even with the weirdness, these two franchises embody every part of the word “rival”, striving to make one another better throughout the season and the off season.

The lifetime record between the Yokai and Emperors is 3-3-1, highlighting how simultaneously even and odd this rivalry is.

Las Vegas Gamblers
The rivalry between the Emperors and the Gamblers is potentially the biggest rivalry in the league. With the Emperors constantly escalating their efforts to troll the Las Vegas Gamblers, including making a poster to be shown national television that specifically made fun of the Gamblers. When these two teams play each other, it is some of the most trash talking in the league. Fortunately the Emperors have a lifetime record of 2-1 over the Gamblers, so they have been able to backup the trash talking effectively.

Vancouver Marmots
This rivalry is purely because the owner of the Marmots is the in real life father of the owner of the Emperors. The Emperors started playing fantasy football because of his dad, and now he has invited his dad into by far the largest league both of them have played in. Just as in real life, the Marmots are the father of the Emperors with a record of 2-0 over him in AFF.
